I am a new member of the Bethlehem Palette Club. "The purpose of the Bethlehem Palette Club is to stimulate the creativity of its membership by providing them opportunities to learn, exhibit their art and network with other artists. The purpose also is to create an interest in art within the community through outreach and exhibitions, acquainting the public with the work of the members of the Bethlehem Palette Club."
Check out the members gallery.
This gallery is where I had my first professional showing and sale of my art work. It was still at its original location at that time, and since has become an invaluable outlet to artists both local to Charlotte, and around the country.
Sandy Skoglund was my photography teacher at Rutgers. When I had taken her class I had no idea who she was. One afternoon during an art club meeting she had been asked to give a presentation. She showed slides of her work and talked about her career. At the end of her presentation I went up to her and said, "Sandy, I had no clue what you did, you are amazing!" She was often M.I.A. during my second semester, and I found out later it was because she was in the process of exploding on the art seen in Paris, and was busy making new work, and traveling. If you have never heard of her, you must check out her work. Not only is her work amazing, but she is one of the most down to earth people you will ever meet. When she had it, she truly gave you her time and need words. Enjoy!
The Jersey City Museum is small by most standards, however it is home to many original works spanning the history of art, as well as being an outlet for established and up and coming artists. It is a family friendly venue that offers lots of weekend activities for kids year round.
One woman power house Neda Rose is the head of the Edgewater Arts Council, and for the past few years I have had the honor of working with her on a number of evens held by the arts council, including being a participant in the "Edgewater Arts and Music Festival". A select number of artists are chosen each year to participate, and a monetary award is given to the "Best in Show". Its always a great end of summer event for both the public and artists alike, where you can enjoy a variety of arts and crafts for sale, some wonderful live music, and great views of Manhattan.
Diane is a tile artist who hand makes the most beautiful tile I have ever seen. I found her site several years ago and decided that if I ever owned my own home I would want to have one of her installations. Even before we closed on our house, I contacted Diane about a koi pond, and she was wonderful to work with. The tiles are outstanding! They are a true work of art, and her website is a must see!
I am a huge fan of hand carved work. Some of the greatest carvers in the world come from Japan & China, especially when it comes to small highly detailed work, which is what really amazes me. The simple pencil, a tool of the trade, here is made into something beyond a simple tool, it is art. Have a L@@K!!!!
Site where those of you who are also art jewelers will find links to fellow artists, as well as resources for contest deadlines, books of interest, etc. Created and run by Jewelry Artist Susan Sarantos.
Ganoksin is a website dedicated to art jewelry making and makers. I found out today that work I submitted for publishing on the site was accepted!I had submitted the work in the early part of the summer, and since I had not heard anything until now, had assumed they had not accept it. They do not accept all submissions, so I feel honored to have been chosen. My work is under the Galleries tab in the Orchid Exhibition link.
